Day One of Preseason is in the Books!

The first day of Hanover High boys soccer training was a successful one.  More than 80 candidates participated in two spirited sessions that featured six scrimmages, including the first two rounds of a round-robin tournament between four evenly-matched teams.  More importantly, the team made good progress in learning new names, and spent significant time with Coach Jared Walker reviewing our team routines for warmup, stretching, and post-match warm-down.  We are pleased to welcome to exchange students form Germany, freshman Carl Gemunden and sophomore Vinzent Moesch, who will add a lot to the program with their presence.

Sunday night's fitness testing session demonstrated that the entire group is starting the season in god to very good shape.  Here are the team's top finishers in the "Beep Test":

Patrick Logan             16.10
Marcus Helble            16.0
Colm Seigne               16.0
Casey Starr                 15.9
Liam Collins               15.9
Lucas Blackmore        15.9
Simon Kahan              15.6
Jake Acker                  15.2
Owen Stadheim          15.2
Dillon Bradley            15.1
Sam Strohbehn           15.0
David Seigne              15.0
Sam Pych                    15.0
Charlie Adams            15.0
Ben Parrado                14.9
Henry Kahl                 14.9

Tuesday's training schedule has one adjustment which we announced to the players today:  we would like to have the goalkeeper arrive at 9:00 for an extended training session led by HHS grad and Middlebury College goalkeeper Duncan Piper, who is himself preparing for the season ahead.   Training starts at 10:00 sharp for the rest of the crew, who did a superb job or arriving on time on Monday.

Players are asked to dress in team colors:  White for Boro, Yellow for Watford, Green for Burnley and Orange for Hull.  Goalkeepers are free to wear any contrasting color.

Whenever rain is in the forecast, players are reminded that it makes sense to pack a garbage bag in their equipment.  It's a great way to keep everything dry if we indeed get rained upon.  We will almost always train in bad weather unless there is a threat of thunder and lightning.

Please not a slight schedule tweak:  Thursday's Varsity scrimmage against Fall Mountain on the HHS turf will be at 5:00.  It will be preceded by a freshman all-star game on the turf.
