Alumni Edge Marauders 3-2

The Marauder alumni kept up their proud tradition Friday evening, earning a 3-2 victory over the new Hanover Varsity in a well-played match on the HHS turf. Yosef Osheyack, playing against and in front of many of his former JV players, opened the scoring with a beautifully-taken goal. Looks like his experience for the US National Deaf Soccer team at the Deaf World Cup in Italy this sumer paid off!  Sophomores Elias Zinman and Dillon Bradley combined to tie the score, with EZ zinging one past Middlebury Varsity 'keeper Duncan Piper.
Marauder Captain Jake Acker had a sassy chip to put the current Marauders up 2-1, but Josh Wallace countered for the alums, showing off the skillz he's been honing with the Bill Miles crew. The young Marauders had a big edge in play as the clock wound down, and Coach Grabill was so sure that his lads could nick a late goal that he instructed clock operators Joe Pych and Steve Kahl to add some indefinite injury time. The "strategy" blew up in his face when Avery Kravitz danced through the Marauder defense and tucked home the winning goal.
Both sides played well. The Marauder short passing game looked cohesive, led by senior center midfielders Acker, Sam Strohbehn and Marcus Helble.  Underclass wingers Liam Collins, Henry Kahl and David Seigne played like veterans, and senior strikers Casey Starr and Sander Macaulay showed a lot of promise.  Defenders Sam Pych, Ben Parrado and Adam Pikelny all had good games.
The Marauder Varsity learned a lot of valuable lessons and liked the way they looked. They're already planning for the rematch in November. In the meantime, they look forward to the season ahead, which continues tomorrow with Varsity and JV teams heading to the Keene Jamboree.  The final Varsity roster will be named Saturday night.
