The time is getting close for Hanover soccer to take their marks, get set, and go! as the season approaches. After three days of practicing and intramural scrimmages, the scene will slowly shift to the HHS turf, where several scrimmages await the Marauders.
Thursday morning's session at Dresden will be same-old, same-old. The four camp teams will train and then complete the second round robin. The afternoon may hold a bit more sizzle, with a final all-freshman scrimmage at Dresden (4:00 arrival, and 4:30 kickoff). The Varsity group listed below will hit the turf for the first time this year, and scrimmage Fall Mountain at 5:00 (arrival and training starting at 4:00). That group will be given white jerseys. They need to provide white shorts and socks, and be sure to have functional mouthguards.
Wednesday afternoon's featured scrimmages were a study in contracts. The freshman match was a spirited goal-fest, concluding with a 5-4 score, and featuring hat tricks by Blake Palmer and Pedro Gallino, and yet another goal by Charlie Adams. Over on the upperclass field, the teams played to a scoreless draw that was nevertheless entertaining. Coach Grabill provided the sideline entertainment, dishing out criticism and praise with his customary preseason 9/1 ratio.
Here's the list for Thursday's Fall Mountain scrimmage:
Jake Acker, Lincoln Adam, Lucas Adams-Blackmore, Dillon Bradley, Owen Brooks, Liam Collins, Alvaro Cooper, Roger Danilek, Christo Dragnev, Daniel Felde, Bauti Gallino, Marcus Helble, Griffin Johnson, Simon Kahan, Henry Kahl, Fletcher Kaplan-Jones, Harris LaRock, Patrick Logan, Sander Macaulay, Nicolas Mayo-Pushee, Luke Messersmith, Harry Olszewski, Ben Parrado, Adam Pikelny, Sam Pych, Colm Seigne, David Seigne, Ben Sobel, Sam Strohbehn, Casey Starr, Elias Zinman.
The team for Friday's Alumni game will be different. Stay tuned. Looking ahead to Saturday's Varsity/JV trip to Keene, the following freshmen should plan on going: Charlie Adams, Kyle Doucette, Blake Palmer and Owen Stadheim. They should also plan on playing in the upperclass scrimmage on Friday at 4:00 on the turf, along with all upperclassmen not playing in the alumni game.
This has been a great week so far. The players have been responsive, unselfish and hard-working. The senior leadership has been outstanding. The real glue for the week has come from the coaches. Huge props to Yosef Osheyack, Willie Johnson, Erik McEwen, Matt Starr, Brett Wanner, Jared Walker, Toby Niles and Duncan Piper. We are so fortunate to have so many experienced, mature educators, dedicated to the success of a great crew of Hanover student-athletes.
See you on the sidelines!
