The Marauder Junior Varsity won an important victory against one of their toughest opponents on Tuesday, beating Bedford 1-0 on a first-half goal by Pedro Gallino. The win gives Hanover a 4-1 record having completed the hardest part of their schedule.
The game was a stalemate in the early going, with both teams feeling each other out. The Marauders went to their bench after 15 minutes, and more than held their own with a number of substitutes playing well. With the starters back in the match with fresh legs, Hanover scored the only goal of the match. Pedro Gallino beat several Bedford defenders on the right side of the penalty area before beating the goalkeeper with a shot inside the left post. It was his second goal of the season.
All of the Marauders played excellent team defense. Harris LaRock played a strong game in goal, and was particularly effective in leading the defense with steady vocal direction. Alexander Purcell was a standout, and made a highlight-reel recovery run after a long lead pass was played behind him.
The Marauders will train tomorrow at Dresden at 3:30 after going to the Computer Lab for Concussion Screening immediately after school. Next game for the JV is Friday at Spaulding at 4:00, with departure after 5th period.
