The Old Guys continued their win streak at home this week, beating Mount Royal 5-3 on Monday. On a slightly muggy afternoon that gave way to a pleasant evening the crew started well right from the whistle. The ball was in Mount Royal's field for the majority of the time. The attacking trio of Gabe Loud, Joe Zhang, and Sam Lutz moved the ball around with ease creating chances for Gabe, who broke loose and started getting shots on frame. His first goal that seemed to defy the odds. After winning the ball on the left flank, Gabe dribbled past a defender and broke toward the box and then took a shot from very, very low angle and watched as the ball curled into the upper right of the goal. The pressure continued with Harry Olszewski steering his midfielders and forwards around the pitch with both vision and authority. This time the pressure came from the right side. Tenzing Rumrill received a pass on the wing and drove down the right side and then sent in a blistering cross where Joe Zhang slipped in and put his foot on the ball for a goal. Mount Royal responded though with a ball through the middle where their speedy forward pounced on it and converted a goal on the run.
At the half Hanover opened with two forwards which quickly yielded results. Gabe collected a ball at the top of the eighteen and this time when he was in front of the goal he calmly put it past the keeper. A few minutes later he collected a pass from Joe Zhang and repeated the same move and goal thus earning his first hat-trick of the season. Mount Royal once again came back with the infamous number 18 who made a blazing run through both the midfield and defense and got the ball in the back of the net. Hanover in turn responded with aplomb after an assist from Aidan Conolly to Sam Lutz who turned and unleashed a cannon from 20 yards out that just caught the inside of the crossbar and in. Mount Royal wasn't done though and made a break down the right side which caught Hanover unaware and placed a cross that was converted on a header past our outstretched keeper. The last ten minutes were a back and forth with Hanover playing in a unfamiliar positions, but there was near goal when Daniel Felde made his way down the right side and sent a well- placed low cross that was almost met by Aidan Connolly. The defense was brave, solid, and composed as always from work by Malachy Flynn and Hayden Hatfield as well as Daniel Wilson who was playing a somewhat new position of center defense.
All Reserves will all meet for concussion screening on Wednesday immediately after school in the Computer Lab.
